In order to communicate with Muslims, it is important to have a working knowledge of their religious and cultural language. This is where Islamic English vocabulary comes in. Here are six key words and phrases you should know if you want to sound like a worldly Muslim:
- Allah – the God of the Muslims
- Quran – the holy text of Islam
- Hadith – teachings attributed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
- Salat – obligatory prayer in Islam
- Ramadan – the month during which Muslims fast from dawn till dusk
- Shahadah – the basic belief of being a Muslim: “There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is His Messenger”.
